A Call for New Leadership in Memphis and Shelby County

Michael Pope is serious about improving our community

As a lifelong public servant and former Chief of Police, I have seen firsthand the challenges our communities face—and the opportunities we continue to miss because of stagnant leadership. Today, Memphis and Shelby County stand at a crossroads. Crime is rising. Trust in our law enforcement institutions is declining. Families are worried, businesses are leaving, and neighborhoods that were once thriving are now struggling to feel safe. It’s time for change. It’s time for new leadership.

For the past eight years, the people of Shelby County have waited for meaningful reforms—reforms that never came. We’ve waited for transparency, accountability, and bold action that addresses both the root causes of crime and the public’s demand for justice. Instead, we’ve been given excuses, politics, and a system that too often fails the very people it’s supposed to protect.

My name is Michael Pope, and I’m running to be your next Sheriff because I believe our community deserves better. I bring a track record of real results—not rhetoric. During my time in law enforcement, not one inmate died under my leadership. That’s not a statistic; that’s a reflection of responsible governance and respect for human life.

We need a Sheriff’s Office that doesn’t just respond to crime—but works to prevent it. That means community policing, investment in youth programs, and partnerships with mental health services, schools, and neighborhood leaders. It means hiring officers who not only serve, but reflect and understand the communities they patrol. It means embracing innovation, not resisting it.

The job of Sheriff is not about maintaining the status quo—it’s about building a safer, more united Shelby County. My vision is clear: restore trust, reduce crime, and reimagine what safety truly looks like for all residents—from Cordova to South Memphis, from Millington to Whitehaven.

Leadership matters. This election is about more than just a title. It’s about who we are and who we aspire to be as a community. The people are ready. I am ready. And together, we can move Shelby County forward.

*Remember: Vote for leadership that knows how to lead. Vote Michael Pope for Sheriff. The time for change is now.*
